I'll be honest. This has been a difficult experience. It has been enticing yet challenging. It has made me aware that I need to organize my ideas, think of the bigger picture, and reevaluate my way of thinking. Boy, do I have a lot of work to do!
If anything, the biggest lesson I have learned during my first phase in the Digital Learning and Leading program is that I MUST change my mindset. Although there are many things that I approach with growth in mind, there is much that I have to apply to my practice. Most importantly, the failing forward mentality. It is a relief knowing that it is in fact "OK" to fail and even necessary to do so. However, with that comes the responsibility and accountability to know that the ball is in my court. It gives me the freedom to take risks, learn, assess and execute again. I have made many mistakes in this program and I plan to make many more in order to fully understand my role as an educator. Honestly, this is all very new to my way of thinking.
The COVA Model of learning has attributed to my mistakes - in an beneficial way, of course. COVA stands for choice, ownership voice and authentic learning experience. This approach to learning has been uncomfortable for me, however, the experiences have been authentic and personal to my development. It has made an impressionable learning experience for me to improve and take accountability in my mistakes and the way I learn. My unavoidable frustrations and obstacles will surely lead to my overall ability to persevere and lead in any situation, especially with the help of technology.
The following links display my work thus far. These works may change in the process, but it is a good snapshot of my learning:
